This is the 2nd installment of our newest bi-weekly feature, Status Report… making sure that you’re informed when your friends are not.
Yay for Youness! Youness Amrani turned pro during the Almost Skateboards 10 Year Anniversary party this last Friday. We wrote an entire blog post about the event, be sure to check it out here.
Who the fuck is Bianca Chandon!? Alex Olson finally revealed the actual name for his new company: Bianca Chandon. I don’t fully understand it but I am extremely intrigued by all the mystery. Before he released this information, if you bought one of his products, you would get a poster with a phone number on it (917-692-2706) that was also the title of the website. When you called this number it would ring until it got to the voicemail of none other than Bianca Chandon. It’s truly genius, I think. Well done, Alex Olson.
Sheckler returns to The Stone! Ryan Sheckler has once again signed a contract with Volcom. He first got on board with them when he was only 8 years old and later departed. He’s back! He has tricks in the True to This video (see our coverage of the world premiere here) and Volcom says there are big projects with Shecks on the horizon.
Please pop my cherry supreme? Supreme is coming out with a new video called Cherry in case you haven’t been paying any attention. It’s supposed to come out later this month. They haven’t released much information, besides a preview for it, which got me quite riled up. Supposedly there are parts from the likes of Alex Olson, Dylan Rieder, Mark Gonzales, Jason Dill, Anthony Van Engelen and many others. Sounds like a powerful line-up already so I can’t wait to see how this turns out. I’m positive it’ll be something you’ll be watching for the next decade.
C1RCA added a few new faces to their fleet. Jack Olson, Ryan Reyes and Taylor Kirby were the mystery subjects of a recent instagram hashtag contest. C1RCA posted a picture with the three new ams covering their faces with stickers and if you guessed all 3 you had the opportunity to win a prize pack. Circa is definitely building a stronger team. Salud, vatos!
The Berrics put together a contest called 2UP. They put the best tightrope walkers in skateboarding against each other for a manual competition. Daewon Song completely killed the entire thing and grabbed the gold. Congrats Daewon! The footage is amazing, be sure to check out all the 2UP videos.
Are hoverboards really available? As many of you have probably already seen, HUVr appears to have finally cracked the case in designing a hoverboard and defeating gravity. Is it real!? Is it a lie!? Well, actually, Tony Hawk came clean about it after a few too many people took it seriously. Even though it has always been a dream of mine to see Schoolboy Q on a hoverboard, I guess I’ll be waiting many more years for the real deal. Check out the original HUVr video plus Tony revealing the truth behind all this floating nonsense.
Backing the backs of The Back Forty. You may have seen the recent Thrasher Ad for The Back Forty and still have no idea what it is. Lo and behold the strangest new company in skateboarding. It consists of Chris Roberts, Kenny Anderson and Marc Johnson. Right there you have my attention. When they posted this ridiculous video, in some weird way, it makes me really want to buy all of their products. Honestly, I can’t even explain it to you. You’re just going to have to watch it for yourself. There is little to no news about the company but we will be sure to fill you in as soon as we know.
Biggest dark slide ever!?!?!? Hometown hero of Paso Robles, Branson Chubbuck might have done the longest dark slide on record. I mean this is fucked up, he took the dark slide game to a completely different level. You have to see the video to believe it. I have known Branson for quite some time and he’s just as rad as that dark slide. It seems like he’s gotten a lot of publicity from it as well. Congrats Branson, you’re the man!
That wraps it up for this week’s Status Report. Stay tuned until next time. Thanks for reading, GO SKATE!
