The Heelflip is another great basic trick that every skater should have in his or her bag. The concept of this trick is similar to a kickflip, only you flick with your heel to get the flip. Sometimes certain spots lend themselves towards a heelflip rather than a kickflip, and it’s a great move in a game of S.K.A.T.E. Keep at it and don’t give up! No one likes a quitter. Check out our step-by-step tips on how to heelflip then watch the video to see Alex Knight break it down.
1. Set your feet up similar to the basic ollie position, but hang the toes of your front foot slightly off the edge of the board.
2. Just like a kickflip- as you pop, slide your front foot off and flick off the edge in the “sweet spot” of the concave of your board, but with the heel of your foot.
3. As the board rotates around, prepare to catch with your back foot and bring your front foot back to the board.
4. Land bolts and ride away clean!
