Ramp It Up

For decades skateboarding has been a hugely popular pastime and culture on Native America Reservations. Ramp It Up is a traveling version of an exhibit exploring the ties between skateboarding and life as a Native American previously on display at the Smithsonian Institute. The exhibit has made its way to San Diego, California where it’ll kick off on April 28th.

Ramp It Up spotlights Native American skateboarders Augustin “Augie” Lerma (Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians) and his younger brother Armondo. Armondo, a seven year old who competes, and Augie, a ten year old who has earned corporate sponsorships, product contracts, and travels across the country to amateur competitions throughout the year, represent Native skateboarding in the United States.

Within the exhibit is everything skateboarding and Native America, from art objects to decks created by Native America artists and images to video footage. Check to see if and when the show will be at a city near you, HERE.
